"Pitch Them Perfect" Wants Dubai to Put Down the Dating Apps and Talk to Each Other

Dubai might be one of the easiest cities in the world to meet people and, somehow, one of the hardest places to actually connect with them. There is always somewhere to go, someone new arriving and another dinner, workout, opening or party happening.

Yet when it comes to dating, a lot of us seem to have ended up in exactly the same place: staring at a screen, swiping through people we may never actually meet. Mohammad Akkaoui, founder of Pitch Them Perfect, thinks we may have forgotten something rather basic along the way: how to walk up to someone and say hello.

His growing Dubai dating concept is trying to bring that back, creating nights where singles meet in real life, conversations happen without a screen in between and your next date might begin because someone actually approached you.

And apparently, it's working.

The idea for Pitch Them Perfect began with a conversation Akkaoui was having with a friend about the strange contradiction of dating in Dubai. “Dubai is incredibly social, but it can still be surprisingly difficult to make genuine connections.”

It struck a nerve. In a city where meeting new people should theoretically be easy, the reality can feel very different. “Everyone wants to meet new people, but nobody really wants another app or another awkward singles night.”

Akkaoui had heard about a similar type of event happening elsewhere and started thinking about how he could reinterpret the idea for Dubai. “I heard about this kind of night happening and I thought, how can we remix it and make it our own?”

And so Pitch Them Perfect was born.

The premise taps into something we're hearing increasingly often from single friends: dating-app fatigue is very real. After years of swiping, matching, messaging, disappearing, reappearing and occasionally spending three weeks talking to someone without ever meeting them, going into a room full of actual humans suddenly feels almost radical.

Perhaps the most interesting thing Akkaoui has discovered through the events isn't that Dubai residents want relationships. It's how uncomfortable many of us have become with the very first step.

“I think the thing we have heard the most is the lack of connection. People have been so used to speaking behind apps that the art of approaching someone and striking a conversation has become extremely difficult and awkward.”

He's got a point. Dating apps removed one of the scariest parts of dating: wondering whether someone is actually interested in being approached. A match gives you permission to speak. In real life, there is no little notification telling you that the person across the room also thinks you're cute.

Pitch Them Perfect is essentially creating a middle ground. You're still walking into a room knowing that people are there to meet someone, but what happens next relies on conversation rather than an algorithm.

There's eye contact, body language, chemistry, awkward pauses, someone making you laugh when you weren't expecting it. All the things a perfectly curated dating profile can't really tell you. And yes, occasionally, a second date.

For Akkaoui, watching Pitch Them Perfect grow has been part of the fun. “Feedback has been great. It has truly been amazing to see how this event has been growing.”

More importantly, the connections aren't necessarily ending when everyone leaves the room. “We've had second dates, plenty of exchanged numbers, first dates and a lot of genuine connections too.”

That last part matters because Pitch Them Perfect doesn't necessarily need to produce a wedding every time it hosts an event to prove its point.

Dating can be enjoyable without immediately becoming a search for the one. Meeting someone new, having a great conversation, getting a number or simply remembering that you're capable of flirting with a stranger all count. In an increasingly online dating culture, getting people comfortable talking to one another again might actually be the bigger achievement.

Next Up: Confessions, Fitness and Maybe a City Near You

Pitch Me Perfect is already evolving beyond its original format. A newer segment called Confessions was introduced recently and, according to Akkaoui, “has been a hit”, with more editions planned.

There's also a fitness dating initiative in the works for September, which feels particularly Dubai. If we're going to meet our future boyfriend or girlfriend somewhere, apparently a workout is as plausible a place as any.

And Dubai may only be the beginning. “We are really excited for what's coming. We are in talks with the potential chance to host a PTP event in other parts of the region.”

That expansion could be particularly interesting in the Arab world, where dating often sits at the intersection of very different expectations around relationships, family, privacy, religion and contemporary social life. A format that makes meeting people offline feel comfortable without turning the evening into an aggressively romantic singles event could have room to travel.

Pitch Them Perfect arrives at an interesting moment. We have more ways to meet someone than any generation before us and yet, somehow, plenty of people feel increasingly disconnected. We can filter by age, location, height, interests and intentions before saying hello, but none of those filters can tell us what it feels like when someone walks into a room.

Akkaoui isn't trying to invent a new form of dating. In some ways, he's doing exactly the opposite: he's creating an excuse for people to meet each other the old-fashioned way. No perfectly selected profile pictures or opening line agonised over in the group chat, also no algorithm deciding who should appear next.

Just a room full of people, a little courage and the possibility that someone might actually come over and talk to you. Turns out, in Dubai in 2026, that might be revolutionary enough.
