BIRKENSTOCK and Repetto Meet Somewhere Between the Footbed and the Ballet Barre

The two heritage houses unite for a three-piece collection that pairs BIRKENSTOCK’s anatomical comfort with Repetto’s Parisian sense of movement.

At first glance, BIRKENSTOCK and Repetto may appear to belong to entirely different worlds. One is built around the anatomy of the foot, functional design and a shoemaking history that stretches back to 1774. The other emerged from the discipline and poetry of ballet, creating footwear defined by lightness, movement and distinctly French elegance.

Their first collaboration proves the distance between the two is not quite as wide as it seems. Developed through BIRKENSTOCK 1774, the brand’s Paris-based special projects and collaborations division, the new BIRKENSTOCK x Repetto collection brings the German footbed into dialogue with the codes of the ballet studio. The result is a trio of silhouettes that feels practical, playful and unexpectedly romantic.

The Arizona Gets a Ballet-Inspired Update

The collection begins with a familiar icon: the Arizona. For this release, the classic two-strap sandal is reworked with oversized rounded buckles, giving its instantly recognisable shape a more sculptural finish. It remains unmistakably BIRKENSTOCK, but viewed through Repetto’s softer and more expressive lens.

The Scala introduces a round-toed silhouette finished with two delicate straps and a lace bow. It has the charm of a ballet flat without becoming overly literal, balancing sweetness with a slightly bolder attitude.

Completing the collection is the Opéra, a sabot-style design with long, fluid laces that wrap around the ankle like a dancer’s ribbons. Of the three, it is perhaps the clearest meeting point between both houses: grounded by a substantial footbed, then transformed through gesture and movement.

Each silhouette arrives in three colours drawn from Repetto’s visual universe. Iconic Pink references the delicacy and lightness traditionally associated with dance. Flame Red brings a more dramatic energy, while Profound Black offers the collection’s most timeless and understated option.

A Vichy-check lining appears across the footbeds, introducing a motif associated with effortless Parisian style and linking the three designs through one recognisable detail. The collection is offered in European sizes 35 to 42.

Beyond the visual contrast, the collaboration is held together by a shared interest in how people move. BIRKENSTOCK’s identity is rooted in foot health and its anatomically shaped footbed, while Repetto began with an equally functional purpose. Founded by Rose Repetto in 1947, the house was created after she designed dance shoes for her son, dancer and choreographer Roland Petit.

That original act of care became the foundation for a maison synonymous with ballet flats and French savoir-faire. Repetto later created the Cendrillon for Brigitte Bardot in 1956, while Serge Gainsbourg helped turn the Zizi into another cultural signature.

Both brands have since moved far beyond their original contexts, but neither has abandoned the purpose that shaped it. BIRKENSTOCK continues to frame comfort as a matter of natural movement, while Repetto’s designs remain connected to precision, freedom and the body in motion.

The partnership arrives at a moment when fashion is increasingly interested in unlikely combinations: technical and delicate, practical and theatrical, familiar and slightly strange (and we're not mad at that.)

Rather than disguising the BIRKENSTOCK footbed or turning Repetto’s ballet language into a costume, the collaboration allows both identities to remain visible. Rounded buckles, ankle ribbons, bows and checked linings soften the utilitarian forms, but comfort remains central. Somehow it works, and somehow we kinda want it all.

The collection was conceived in Paris before being produced in BIRKENSTOCK’s German workshops, combining Repetto’s creative vocabulary with the German house’s manufacturing expertise. It launched on July 16, 2026, through 1774.com, Repetto’s channels and selected retailers worldwide.

It may be called a ballet of style, but these are shoes made for more than standing beautifully at the barre. They are designed for moving through the city—with ribbons tied, footbeds grounded and perhaps a little more drama in every step.
